The car has not failed to crank, only run properly.

 

So, from what I've read...the car was running fine before she stopped for gas and when she went to restart, after fueling, it would barely run, and you have occasionally had misfire codes in the past and have two now. Why hasn't the mechanic looked into each cylinder that is misfiring? This would be the area I'd start with. Maybe pull the spark plug and check quality of spark.

One more question...

Has the car had a tune up recently?...or ever?

Mechanic did Compression check, 150 per
I am unsure if he checked each plug for strong spark

We did the full 60K service, then oil every 5K to present 85K, mechanic just installed new plugs. Installed new PS and water pump and belt.

 

What rating gas was put in it? I mistakenly filled mine with 87 once and it stumbled and misfired all over the place, exacerbating some existing occasional misfires. Going back to premium and replacing the coils, plugs, and plug leads cleared everything up. You seem to have already done the last part although new coils and leads wouldn't hurt.

 

We always use premium 92. Tried 87 with the 99 and it ran poorly, but no where as bad as the 03 is running it barely has enough power to move itself along.

 

Well, This Truck is still in the shop. Additionally tried new coil packs, Ground Cable, TPS and CPS. Thinking its heading to the salvage yard. My wife will never trust it again if we get it running. She now wants a FJ Cruiser.

 

It shouldn't be that difficult, this illustrates the reason to take a Land Rover to a Land Rover specific independent mechanic ONLY. Not a foreign car shop or someones cousins friend and certainly not a Dealer.

If you have been ignoring proper maintenance for this long it could be many issues piled up.

Now that the lecture is over, how long since you've done a full tune up?

Where are you located? Maybe someone can refer you to a competent shop..

 

I agree, but am geographically challenged, we live at zip 17778 the most rural in Pennsylvania, nearest LR dealer is 3 hour ride. I also travel quite a bit

Did the full DiscoMike tuneup at 60K when we bought the truck.
All fluids, wires plugs ,filters, oil seafoam, the works. like $500 in materials.
The car has run flawless ever since, until this episode.
This truck is in really good condition for a 03 and we planned on keeping it till 250K.
We are heading to town and will stop by to check progress.....

 

So, Now the garage is throwing in the towel and wants the truck removed from their property. They have to re assemble all the stuff they have torn apart. the I have to arrange a tow to somewhere.

Checked KBB value and it's like $2k for a trade in. I am in for a grand on this incident alone.

I'll offer it up as is if a LR enthusiast is interested.
