Default Will 235/70/16's fit on stock 8" rims?

I've got to get a new set of rubber for LRD2 my '03 Discovery 2.

She's riding on oversize 265/75/16's and I'd prefer the skinny chunky look. Down here on-island we rarely get over 45mph so it's round town speeds with hills. I feel the oversize tires might be impacting performance.

Stock is supposed to be 255/65/16's which is a 29.1" diameter.

My preferences (depending on availability) would be as follows:

1) 235/70/16 (29" dia)
2) 245/70/16 (29.5" dia)
3) 255/65/16 (29.1" dia)
4) 235/75/16 (29.8" dia)
5) 255/70/16 (30.1" dia)
6) 245/75/16 (30.5" dia)

I have the stock alloy 8" rims and no lift.

Interested in opinions on the sequence of the above choices - and particularly about fit on the 8" rims. Any pics would be much appreciated too.

Thanks,
Scott.

PS. Swapped out the thermostat for 180 degree soft spring and she's running 10-15 degrees cooler. Best mod so far, although my gas mileage has dropped accordingly.

General consensus is that it will look funny if you go below a 245. Personally, if go for the 255/65r16. Its a size I've run before that looks nice and performs well.

More than looks to consider and those are individual preferences.

Tire mfgs and some vendors such as TR give specs for recommended min/max rim widths for the particular brand/size.

The tires will fit, but it will look silly. Also the sidewall will be more vulnerable from rocks and stuff making sidewall punctures more likely.
