Default Will 4.6 bolt into 4.0?

So, I have had some issues with the engine... it is getting close to the time to either rebuild or replace the engine I have found a 2003 4.6 that someone is willing to sell for 350.00 it is complete with all the auxiliary parts. The heads need to be done (not an issue for me). But I am wondering IF the 4.6 will bolt right into place? Appreciate any help / advice.

Cheers!

Yes it will bolt right in. Does your '02 have SAI (Secondary Air Injection)? If so and the $350 4.6 does not you'll need to swap your 4.0 SAI heads over so all of the plumbing works properly and you don't get error codes.

You are right... it is an SAI, but I do have a set of 4.0 non-SAI heads. Question is will these heads work on the 4.6 engine?

The heads are interchangeable. I've done it.

Yes, confirming the heads are interchangeable. Only thing to be aware of is using SAI heads on a non-SAI vehicle you have to thread plugs into the SAI ports on each head.

That looks like a clean engine for $350; hope the internals are good. The oil filter is an OEM LR unit which may be a sign of proper maintenance by the PO. Good luck with the swap.

Just to add... when I swapped sai heads into a non SAI truck I just filled the fittings with weld material. They still interfere with the head bolts. Then I found that my non SAI heads had small threaded plugs in them. If your do, too, that's the preferable route.

Also, the stock 2003 sai heads that I swapped on were very soft. The threads stripped in several places at recommended torque and I had to helicoil them. That was probably specific to those heads.
