Will a CDL capable differential bolt into my 2002?
Hey folks,
Last fall I picked up a clean 2002 S2 Disco. Years ago I had a 1996 S1 which was a beast off road, and I was hoping to get a newer version of the same thing.
At the time I thought it had the CDL bits and I just had to add the linkage, then recently found out that not to be the case for my 2002. Needless to say I'm not real happy about it, as I spend a lot of time in the summer up in the mountains. I'm not comfortable with relying on an electronics traction package to get me to and from the places I like to go.
So, I'm faced with some options. I hear you can buy the parts and add them, but that it costs quite a bit and then I'd have to get into the case. I drive it to work every day and to be honest I don't want to tear it apart and have it non-op for who knows how long. So that begs the question, will one of the earlier or later units with the parts intact bolt in? If so, where's a good place to pick one up?
Thanks

My buddy changed the front part of the t-case and the shifter on his 03 out of a disco 1. He now has CDL and ot works great. Just picked up my 03 disco last thursday and looking for a disco one so i can do it too. Visit rovertym engeneering they have th eparts for sale but it's cheaper to go to a junkyard and pull it out yourself and do it at home.
Here is a link for a new diff, not used, they also have the new D1 linkage.
Junk yard T/cases can get you into trouble so go with the new parts.
