Default will the chevy fan clutch work on the 03/04?

Is there an aftermarket alternative to the expensive fan/clutch unit for the 03/04 discoveries? I read some where about using a chevy clutch unit but, not sure if this would work on the 03/04 since on these they are made in one piece which is different then the fan/clutch units on the 99-02 discovery. thanks.

Have you tried to separate the fan and clutch?
In the DI tech section is the write up on the Chevy fan clutch, it will screw onto your water pump, but I do not know if there is enough space between the fan and radiator.

Well, the Chevy clutch, and others, attaches to the water pump, which is same in 04 and 94, as example. But you might need a new fan, or redrill mounting holes in yours. The Chevy clutch is called a six inch diameter clutch. In a pinch you can even use one from late 90's - early 2000's Chevy or GMC trucks from junkyard ($20 with fan).

Checked a stock D1 fan and clutch, it appears 2 7/8 inch deep from front of clutch to rear of wp mounting nut. The Chevy clutch is a smooth face, not as much heat sink material as some HD units. But like Spike says, what will make the space an issues is exactly how old fan mounts on new clutch.

thanks, On the 03/04 there is no way to get the fan blade part off of the clutch, they are made as one part. Other then the junk yard route, I guess I could buy just the blades for a 99-02 rover and get a chevy fan clutch. So the chevy part will just screw on to the water pump.?

Sorry to add to an old read but i guess its ok! Lol So is the chevy fan clutch or just an older lets say 02 fan and removable clutch exact fit for 03 disco and if so why did LR changeto this unservicable setup? Is the newer 03-04 version better?

Im about to do the full monte! Radiator, lower temp thermostat, hoses, water pump, fan clutch ( belt and other pulleys new) ..will be using green peak like last change the top screw on radiator was leaking through that hole and i did an emergency patch that held til i could afford all the new parts but now its replacment... Disco runs ok and about 5 deg more in slow traffic than some post here but i now have opportunity to fix it!

I would like to know this as well. I would guess you would have to buy the whole assembly (clutch with fan attached).

Well i see i can buy a chevy clutch new cheap and the older 00-02 disco fan cheap and together they are less than half the colst of the 03-04 ones, and that sounds like a good deal if they are as good as the non servicable 03 versionss

More blades on the 03/04 version. I assume it moves more air.
