Winch on DAP Discrete Winchmount, need new front springs?
Quick question, pretty much as the title says. If you were to put a winch on a DAP discrete winch mount, do you still need new front springs? I'm curious if they are not required in that case. Are the springs needed more for the weight of the winch, or typical heavy winchmount bumpers?
Basically, just "assessing" the value of a built truck, what it would take me to create the same thing myself, and wondering if I'd need to figure in the price of new front springs etc.

I had the LR winch kit & A bar and the dealer didn't put on the HD springs. I didn't know they were available and the dealer didn't advise but I think I was glad. The front didn't sit any lower and I never had any problems. The upside was I definitely think the ride was better with the winch up-front. I'm sure you'll get some different opinions but i didn;t do any rock crawling or anything like that just trails with sand / deep mud / logs etc and the stock springs were perfect for me.
Mike, sent you a PM.
Tee, you saying to didn't get HD springs, and it was fine and you're glad you didn't?
I'm looking more for "overland" usage instead of rock crawling or extreme trails.

I had the DAP discreet mount on my Series I and also have one on the Series II. Both had fairly new stock springs when I put them on and it was fine in both cases with no front end droop. Unless you are going to do some serious offroading or the springs are getting old, cause thy do start to sag, you should be fine. Enjoy! Oh and I also put a wireless remote winch on there, prefer it to the wired remote. This winch has both.

No, the dealer did not change out the stock springs for the HD springs when they put on the winch kit and in the end, Yes I was glad they did not. I think the ride was much better on the highway and on bumpy streets. Whenever It was in for service and I had a loaner Id think how rough it rode. It was an '01 and the lack of HD springs never caused an ounce of trouble including tire wear, alignment, etc. There is no way I'd pay the $$ for the HD springs next time around. Now I just need to find the $$ for a winch kit for this Disco. Hope this helps a little.
