Default Winterizing!!

I need to prepare my 2000 disco for a serious Montana winter, I know its early, but I would like to get an idea as to what I'm going to have to be changing in order to keep her running in -30F temperatures? Thanks guys.

I'm in the Buffalo, NY area and the only thing I do for winter is change the oil from my heavy summer weight oil to a lighter winter weight oil. I believe I am going to use Rotella 5w-40 synthetic this winter. For -30 I suppose a block or oil heater would also be a good thing.

Coolant change along with a new T/Stat, a 5W30 synthetic engine oil along with either a Mobil 1-301 or a K&N 3001 filter, inspect/replace your air filter, have your battery/alternator tested make sure the fluid level in your battery is full if you can pull the inspection plates.
Per your mileage, you are ready for all your fluids to be changed soon.

A good battery, and coolant flush w/proper amount of antifreeze. Clean fluids, put less stress on pumps etc. Make sure your heater and butt warmers work and get a good ice scraper.

Yes the seat warmers are a plus in the winter.

A 2-amp trickle charger on the battery is a good idea to keep the battery healthy in those cold temps. Oil pan heaters on the engine and transmission are a good idea also. Other than that make sure your antifreeze is mixed properly and change to a lighter oil.

No need to spend $15 on a oil filter, it is not any better of a filter than a $5 Purolator oil filter.
If you use coolant that is premixed it is mixed to -34*F.
As already said, 5w-30 full synthetic.
A block heater might be a good idea, you can buy a universal one that goes into your lower radiator hose.
Otherwise www.atlanticbritish.com sells them too.
No need to prep the Rover any differently than a Chevy.

Cannot understand why you guys don't run a decent oil all year round instead of switching to a 5w30 for example in winter only. Stick something like Mobil 1 or similar fully synthetic in it and be done for all year / max protection...Your engine will love you for it

I don't stay with one oil because my 99 cranks pretty hard at -20 degrees even with dual Yellow Tops. When I tried a 5W/30 Mobil one my engine would spin at it's regular cranking speed when the 10W/40 Mobil 1 would slow it down.

We do, its just that over here it gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
Using a thinner oil in the hotter temps can increase oil consumption, even with a full syn.
How big are your temp swings in a year?
Here it is a 90*F temp swing, 100 in the summer and 10 in the winter. Sometimes even colder.
And dont forget that we Yanks drive more in a year than you drive in 2 years.
If I only drove 5,000 miles a year I would just use M1 5w-30 all year and just change it once a year.
But I dont, I drive close to 15,000 miles a year.
