WIP: Brake bleed not going well at all

Default [Finished: OK] Brake bleed not going well at all

Well, we bought all the right parts, and the proper wrench (10/11's are almost impossible to find -- around here, an 11 itself is almost impossible to find, I hadda go to NAPA)...

and we got one burst of fluid out of each front, and that was it.

20 pumps.

So we went to the WABCO.

We can pull fluid drips off of both input lines when I pump the pedal, but only one output line: RR. No matter how far we loosen the other three, no matter how hard I pump, no drips.

Pretty clearly, the WABCO is unhappy, but I'm not familiar with the methods in which it can *become* unhappy. Note that I have *no* dash warning lights at all, and they all pass the key-on test. I don't even have a BRAKE light, except when I put on the parking brake.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Work in progress, daily driver. No brakes at all at the moment.

is your reservoir full?

are you doing one brake at a time?

Loosen one bleed screw, push peddle to floor, tighten screw, release peddle. Repeat. repeat until new fluid comes out of bleed screw,

keep topping up reservoir - do not let it empty it will suck air into your system.

Do in order RR LR RF LF - i think, need to check that.

The reservoir was full, and dropped almost not at all. Maybe a millimeter on each wheel; never came out of the filler neck.

We infer stuck valving in the WABCO head...

And, OK, I guess I should say that I've read the RAVE, and the sticky, and I'm following the standard procedure, yes.

No, I have lots of money for pizza, so I invited 4 friends over, and we're doing all 4 wheels at once. :-)

So why were you bleeding them in the first place? Were you having brake problems or are you just doing maintenance? Sometimes if you get air in the modulator you will not be able to bleed them without a pump. So you are saying your brakes are not working now?

I was bleeding them because they were working *almost* not at all; the pedal would bottom out, and sometimes pumping would help, and sometimes not... I had to give a friend a ride the other night, and I was nervous enough about them that it seemed time to get it fixed.

Now, yes, they're not working at all, though I suspect that if I bleed the RR (the only one that leaked a drop when we cracked the output side of the WABCO), I might get back to where I was.

Hoping not to have to replace the modulator, though I do see a couple on eBay in the low $200s.

Why the modulator? You have classic master cylinder dead symptoms. Pumping the brakes to build pressure is a good sign that the MC seals are toast.

And that would explain why *one* corner would be the only place fluid gets through the WABCO?

If it was the *two* corners on one circuit, I'd believe it. But I get fluid on both inputs to the WABCO and only on one of four outputs. So, pending further information, the symptoms don't match your assertion.
