Default Wiper Fluid Leaking - Repair Tips?

Hi all,

Came out to the Discovery yesterday to notice a small puddle under the front bumper:

Fortunately the fluid is just wiper fluid. Maybe someone tapped my bumper and cracked the reservoir, or maybe it's just a seal that failed. Per the RAVE, the replacement procedure involves removing the front bumper. I'd like to avoid that.

Does anyone have any insight into the common failure that leads to this leak (washer pump seals vs failed reservoirs)? Repair suggestions are welcome as well. If it's just the tank that breaks, then maybe I can just slap some FlexSeal on.

Thanks!

You might not have to remove the entire bumper, just the wheel liner on the driver side and you can get some access. However, most of the tubes and pumps are attached to the reservoir on the front (bumper side).

The plastic probably broke. they get extremely brittle and are very prone to failing. Could be as simple as an o-ring on a pump but my bet is broken reservoir.

Headlight pump is on the front, rest are on the back & be accessed if u removed the lower bumper/fender liner. Could be a rubber grommet seal or a rubber line as well.

Thanks @Best4x4 - Maybe the leak is at the back but it's only dripping in the place pictured, which is closer to the front of hte bumper. For whatever it's worth, the windshield washers still work fine, which I think can rule out the rubber lines and point to either a seal or a cracked tank.

Yeah I've seen the grommets around the washer pumps crack and leak. Depending on how full your washer reservoir is they can also leak at the neck. It could also be a cracked tank, but I personally haven't run across one yet failing on it's own vs a wreck or trail damage. S/SD models didn't have headlight washers so their reservoir was minus one opening/pump.

Did all 2001 SE7s have headlight washers...? I have plugs in the bumper and just assumed they were never fitted.

SE/SE7's usually had them. If I remember correctly the OEM blank plugs for the headlight squirter's being absent were square vs round like on your D2.
