I bought a 96 discovery a few months ago and when I drive it for more than 20 min. or more if I turn it off for about 5 min. it will not start. The lights on the dash will come on but it will not turn over no clicking from the starter I don't hear the fuel pump it's like the motor is disabled. I can let it sit for an hour and it will cool down and start right up and it will run fine. But when it gets hot and shut off won't start until it cools down. Any ideas?

neutral safety switch. Start there. Move your shifter around, and try to start in neutral.

 

Or it could be the starter is going out,,takes more power to start when hot.

 

If it would turn over and not start I would say it is your fuel temp sensor, but since it wont even turn over I would have to say that it is the starter.
The other culprite could be the alarm "spider". But I am betting on the starter.

 

I tried it in neutral and it still would not start. what is the alarm spider? and thanks for the help.

 

Try the starter first, you dont want to mess with the alarm spider if you dont have too.
