AB sells good parts but they also sell bad parts, depending on the part you need to buy OEM.
Just like any parts supplier they offer low quality and high quality parts.

 

Gotcha, I will admit I think I did go with a lower priced brand. I should have known though. The cap and rotor that were on there were shorter than the cap and rotor that I installed.

Thanks again. I will get a new one tomorrow and let you know the progress as well as some pics. I am completely stoked to get this thing running so I can focus on the fun stuff. A buddy of mine just got a new tubing bender, so we are going to make a new front bumper and some other cool stuff for it. I will post a new thread with some pictures tomorrow.

Hey Guys, I have been traveling for work quite a lot, so I haven't had the time to work on the project here, but I took the time to get the LR cap and rotor, double checked everything and I am coming down to the fact that it may just very well be the ignition module. The most I can get from it is a little sputter. It will back fire just a little, but won't start. I can tell that while it may be getting a little spark, it is no where near what it needs to be.

Unless you guys have any other ideas, I have even tried the starting fluid straight in the intake manifold and still nothing.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I read just about every D1 thread on the board and other boards and tried everything. I didn't end up needing an Ignition Module either, although I will be relocating it to the firewall soon.

Anyway, I think it finally ended up justing being the Coil. It still runs a little rough, but at least it runs.

So the parts I replaced were the Distributor Cap and Rotor (LR) parts, Plugs, Wires and Coil.

I am ready to start adding the fun stuff to the $600 project.

Congrats! I hate to admit it but I bought my 95 Disco for $700. It needs alot of work as well (most recently the radiator is leaking and any hose except coolant is seeping fluid as well) but I would not trade her for the world.

Being a mechanic I can say.. patience is always key in repair work. Sometimes stepping back from the vehicle and rethinking it is the wisest thing to do.

 

I agree. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I would really like to create a wheel-a-ble fun daily out of it. I got a little frustrated at first mostly because my work schedule kept me from working on it. Now that I am home more, I am looking to really get to the fun stuff.

 

That is exactly what I want to do. I have been looking at a 2" lift as it has the least impact on overall geometry (or so I have read somewhere). Some slightly bigger tires
and just improve on what LR gave me for a engine. Most of all I want to keep it as a daily driver.

 

My land rover won't start it's got heap's of battery & fuel
it turns over & fires but won't run help?

 

Mr. Bad - with our Jedi powers turned up to full power we can't quite make out the following:

A. Type and year of Rover
B. Any codes displayed?
C. When you say "fires" - do you mean you get spark? If not crank position sensor (if you don't have a distributor - if you do, check ignition amplifier module)
D. If a D1 and MAF is unplugged slightly it will try to crank and die before it gets to idle speed.
