Default Won't start until 3rd crank. Ideas?

Our DII has about 115,000 +/-miles

When cold it takes at least 3 cranks before it fires up.
When at running temp it usually fires up on the first.

Where should I start?
Could it be a fuel pressure issue?
Crank sensor?

Thanks again

i'd start with fuel pump. sounds like you are loosing pressure after a sit.

turn key on and let it prime from pump for a few seconds, then crank it.

Fuel Pump! In a Disco the pump itself is responsible for maintaining pressure in the line between the pump and the engine. Sounds like yours has failed the same way mine did a few years ago. The pump pumped pressure just fine, but when not running it allowed all the pressure in the line to bleed back into the gas tank. I could always cycle the key switch about 3 times before cranking and it would start up, because when you turn the key to the ON position the fuel pump pumps for a few seconds. It would run fine until I killed it out, and it would start back up if I started it quickly after killing it out, but if it sat it would not start unless I cycled the key to build the pressure back up. The good news is that the part is cheap and there is an access panel under the carpet in the cargo area to get to it without having to drop the tank. You dont have to replace the entire assembly, just the Pump itself. Airtex makes a unit that works great and it's availble at Advance Auto Parts. That's where I got mine. I think it was 80 bucks.

Here is the link to the thread I started and helped me tackle this issue way back when. Still running strong! https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...options-54600/

Thanks for the feedback and info. I'm going to swap out the pump unit soon and see if that cures it.

Is the pump the same DI and DII?

How about instead of swapping parts, put a fuel pressure gauge on it and check it. You know, instead of just throwing parts at it........

Yeah its a pain to get to, but it's not that bad. I had a 96 Jetta that would do the same thing and turned out the plugs and wires were shot.

Shouldn't I be able to hear the pump when it is keyed on?
Right now I hear nothing. In my DI I can hear the pump prime when it's keyed on.
