Default Worn key or ignition?

Not sure which is worn but the key is visibly showing age.

The problem is when the key is inserted all the way I have to pull it back out about an 1/8th of an inch to get the key to turn. If anyone is familiar or has fixed this problem please let me know.

I've got the same stupid problem. Pull it out a little and wiggle it. It's like being in a bad porno flick. I'm thinking of using a little lube.

Hopefully someone on the board has a good answer.

Try this lube:
Amazon Amazon

or do the repair. Instructions are under one of the stickies.

I've had the same symptom with the ignition switch cylinder in my truck for 3-4 years. Like Ben said, after inserting the key fully I have to pull it out and eighth of an inch or so to find the sweet spot where it will turn. I haven't minded that; it's a form of theft protection. But yesterday, for the first time, I inserted the key fully but it got stuck and I couldn't pull it out. Eventually it came out and worked fine the next couple of times I started the truck, but having the key in the ignition with it unable to turn or be removed was not fun.

I may try the fix linked in the Write-ups, How-tos and Must Read sticky, but it's not clear to me how it would correct the problem the OP and I describe.

Try a rubber band at the base of the key
