First, it is way too short and why try to modify something that wouldn't look good on a D2 anyway?
Why not keep your eye open for a good used Saftey Device rack which was made for the Rover and will last.

Looks like you'd have to mount it directly to the roof since it's probably not wide enough and the mounts aren't tall enough to reach gutters. Pretty cool rack. Wouldn't hurt to go look at it. DII gutters are between 58"-59" apart and you'd need at least 12" to clear the roof in the back.

 

in case you were confused the series 2 and the Discovery series 2 are two different trucks.
