Default Would spring spacers work to lift it?

I have a 2000 disco II, it is going to be in the mountain 80% of the time so I would like to lift it. I really don't want to spend the $500 or so and am wondering if spring spacers would do the same thing? I have found some 1.5" spring spacers that I can get for $50.
I haven't seen these spacers but my brother is a metal guy and could make me something similar if they are fairly simple.
Please let me know the pros and cons.
Thanks,

How many miles? Still on the stock springs?

It's a little bit of sticker shock to do the full suspension, but IMO worth it as you'd have to replace the stock springs eventually anyways due to them wearing out, so you might as well do it right the first time and save yourself the time wasting having to pull everything apart twice.

Spacers will accomplish the same (or close to the same) "lift" to squeeze in some bigger tires, but you won't get the added benefit of additional suspension travel, or improved ride from replacing the springs/shocks.

You can't do it. Adding spacers to an old warn out factory suspension will make you very top heavy and out of control, prone towards rolling over.
Start saving up your money and get rid of the factory suspension.
