Default Wtf? Transmission tunnel cut

So, rarely do we have any moisture at all here in West Texas, let alone streets flooding. However! The streets did flood so I did what any Land Rover enthusiast would, and played in it. But as I did, my carpet began to get soggy. I was only splashing around through 6 inches of water or so, so I got worried. Pulled up my carpet today aaaaand...

Triangle cut! I can see the transmission housing!
what on Earth could they have been trying to do or repair by cutting here!? Also, thoughts on what I can use to patch after I bang it back in there with a hammer? Cripes.

Oh man, that makes sense. Lazy way to drop the tranny?

JB Weld is an excellent solution, thanks. I'll give it a go next weekend and see how she fares.

I'd cut a piece of metal to replace the missing section than use the JB Weld putty to so all the seams.

Yeah, good idea. This weekend I may take all the seats out and pull the carpet up. Now I'm worried about mold and rust all over as well.
