Rear bumper custom made by RTE. It is very heavy duty, probably stronger than any other part of this Disco 2!
Fabbed up an AUX light switch for the rear AUX roof rack lights which is negative (groud) activated. Uses an extra OEM rear aux light switch placed into one of the blank slots around gauge cluster. Will add another for the front off road light bar as well. Although this circuit is 10amp capable, it's not enough and I will add minimum 30amp relays for the roof rack lights. Basically, this latching relay cuts into the rear light circuit. When not activated, the normal little rear back-up light functions normally AND the roof rack lights come on. OR, when this extra OEM aux switch is activated, the rear roof lights come on if you need some extra light at night while not backing up. This way no more drilled in switches. Just have to wire in the two LEDs for the OEM switch. Here is a pic of basic circuit, but is is only the short test circuit.
Adding some wood trim to switches.... had to sand down a cracked one, fill, re-stain, and 5 coats clear gloss polyurethane. The veneer is thin so don't oversand. OEM was a very tough coat of fiberglass type resin and took a belt sander to remove. Next time I will try a chemical peel.....
Absolutely beautiful finish on the switch plate. The dark tortoise color is really giving off a luxury vibe. These types of attention to detail mods are my favorite to read about. They add such a nice custom touch to the vehicle. Keep up the great work, can't wait to see what you do next!
Hey THX ADG! The Disco 1 + 2 wood veneer patterns are very attractive. Guess that comes with someone's good selection eye. The English always have very nice wood panels in their Rolls, jags and LR's and many other brands. Now to get the rest of the plastic back in shape. I don't think I want to prime and paint the plastic.....just never really looks the same. Really only the center console is dog pawed...maybe a nice one will pop up for sale.
Did some minor repairs. 3D printed some ABS washers for the subwoofer and new clip mounts for the gauge cluster surround. These tabs are almost always broken. Some are nearly completely missing. My 'new' surround had most of the plastic still intact. The new fittings are glued in place with 15min 2 part devcon plastic welder....super strong bond. The washer guide hole will be drilled out a touch bigger for the screws.

Nice work. You could probably sell the gauge cluster surround tabs, or get royalties from Shapeways like Lowest Bidder did with his 3D-printed window rollers. Next up --- something to replace the plastic tabs to which the window switches panel is supposed to be attached, but which are always broken like the gauge cluster surround tabs!
