Default xyz gear position switch

Hello, so my disco is sluggish when cold or warm, switching gears at 50 mph (loves to run at 2100 RPM). I will get the dash and gear shift (the red lights) illustrating P, R, 3, 2 and 1. I was under the vehicle today attempting to adjust the cable so that when the red and dash illustrate "D" (or the "N"), the drive gear is in position. After 90 minutes, there was no way to get the two to meet, which leads me to the XYZ. Does this mean the switch is defective? If it did not cost 600 bucks, I would replace it. So my question is: do I not concern myself with the lack of the dash and gear "D" illustration, or does the fact that the red light beside the gear shift and illustration of the "D" are not illuminated affect the shifting while in drive and point directly to a malfunctioning XYZ switch? Any thoughts? Thanks.

the xyz switch is somewhat adjusstable.....2 screws and it rotates, I had a similar issue and the adjustment seemed to cure it , also they can take on moisture and need a cleaning inside....but try the adjustment first

Thank you.I unscrewed the two, and was able to adjust it maybe 2 mm. Should I expect more? Did you have the same problem with the sluggish shifting as well when this part was acting up? Thanks.

Xceller8 -- thank you again! With my wife in the truck and myself under the transmission, I was able to adjust the switch and now for the first time in 8 months, I am at peace with the state of the transmission and the truck is shifting properly. Thanks again. Cheers,
