I'd like to pick up some new Yokohama geolander tires for my 2003 disco. I've got stock factory 16" wheels and was wondering if people put the 255 70R16 over the stock size 255 65R16? Does that help at all on the highway, also, how much additional clearance do you get? Any one recommend these tires or a different brand? Want something that I can drive relatively long distances on highway before meandering off road.

What I've noticed from the tirerack is that the same tire has materially different prices depending on the size even though they are all relatively similar.

I'm considering the General Grabber myself since they are relatively cheap like the Yokohama, but get better ratings for snow.

I'd love to know what the consensus is for a good, budget All Terrain tire

 

I can vouch for the Yokohama Geolandar...I got a set from SimpleTire.com awhile back and they have been great. Good ride, low noise, tough as hell.

 

I have the Geo AT/S. they have many different models. For the money, I have been happy. Not too noisy, good dry grip on highway and good with snow and mud.

 

I run the 275/60/18 Geolandar's in the summer.
