Default zf4hp22 Discovery 2 auto issues

My Discovery was getting a little old and the auto was no longer going into look up. Since it has passed 400 000 km I decided to renew the torque converter and the gearbox. I am poor, as the x wife has decided I should be this way. So I have to do it all myself. I put new seals thought and steels and clutches. Put the whole lot together without any issues and no problems. However on testing, no error lights are apparent. However no reverse and when it is put into drive it stalls. I am able to get it moving in fist but appears to go straight into third when 2nd is selected with lockup. Bit of a burnt smell from the oil now which can’t be good. Be really appreciative if someone would advise me as to where I may have stuffed up. Insured all correct clearances for clutches and tested them with compressed air. Pulled the valve body apart twice and meticulously insured everything was as it should be.

Really hard to tell what is going on, without knowing your skill level for rebuilding transmissions. Definitely sounds like it's coming out again.

Did you prefill the torque converter?

Did you recheck the level after initial startup?

Honestly sounds like a fluid level problem, did you replace the pump too or let it fly?
