2005 Range Rover Warped Block
I own a 2005 Range Rover that I have had since new. The car has 66K miles, the engine has always been serviced by a local dealer, and all scheduled maintenance has been done.
On New Years Eve day the car blew black smoke out both rear tail pipes with no warning of any kind. We experienced no unusual engine noise or warning lights. I had only driven a couple of miles from our vacation rental house on our way home.
A local mechanic drained the oil and refilled with fresh oil and a new filter. We then restarted the car with no unusual engine noise or smoke. Some oil was apparent on the under carriage and in the engine compartment. The car has never leaked oil in the past.
I then decided to ship the car by truck to the nearest dealer. They spent a day taking the engine apart and informed me that the engine block is warped from overheating. The dealer quoted me over $18K to replace the engine.
I then appealed to Land Rover North America for assistance ie only 66k miles, service records available, one owner, no warning etc. After two weeks of review they declined to assist in any way!
Has anyone else had this problem?
