Well I can't find it, guy had a d2 with a top hat block from a name brand company, kept cracking timing covers, the discussion was about increasing the clearance between the gears and case to improve oil pump by reducing drag and hopefully stop cracking of the timing covers

Guy was saying how the machinist on his ship made a jig to hold the gears for machining but he would not know if it would help till he got back on shore

It was recent /current but can't recall if this was on pirate or ??? Can't remember the search words I used on google

I'll check around. It sounds unusual but not without merit if cover cracking. Not a cheap problem to have.

I've never heard of a chronic problem of D1 timing covers cracking. Nothing like the failed DII oil pumps due to misaligned locating dowels.

Right, dowel alignment. Tom said it was about a DII and current so I was wondering....

Yes they also mentioned dowel alignment, enlarging dowel holes, removing dowels was definitely d2 discussion

I guess I got confused by it coming in to a D1 discussion. I thought you were saying you were concerned about oil pump failure.

I was just bringing this up because I did not know if both covers shared similar issues since its the same pump, or same styled pump
