I have a line on a 1976 Dodge W100 truck with a 318 and NP435 4 speed. I’m thinking about finding another dead D2 (I have 2 running currently) and swapping those in while leaving the LT230. AM I CRAZY? I don’t care about fuel injection or the electronics, Perfectly happy with manual gauges if need be. The idea of an old power plant and granny low kinda sounds fun. I’d like any input y’all have.

 

That's a short trans. You can spend a few hundred making the lt230 divorced. Attach the 4 speed with a stub shaft. No idea on the length there but the stub shaft needs to be 9-12 inches long.

 

I didn’t think about doing a divorced transfer case. I should’ve considering the Dodge has the same setup. Thanks!

 

I have a 5.9 (360) magnum and NV3550 out of a wrangler swapped into my disco. Worth it. Biggest challenge will be starter clearance and finding manifolds that aren’t a problem. I have 80s finned exhaust manifolds on mine.

be forewarned it’s a crapload of work, and youll need an adapter to the transfer case if you want to retain the LT230.
