Hey I love everything about this and I'm dead set on doing the swap I'm a a machinist so adapters and brackets are not really my problem I'm just wondering how would you wire up the transmission to run the 5.3 I'm new to the land rover and I'm having a hard time figuring out how everything works
That’s my weakness as well. Hopefully there’s enough people doing this swap that some really clever and organized person can do a build thread as detailed guide on how to do this. ACE had a pretty lengthy and detailed parts list which I’m sure will be very helpful. The concept is great and I am sure that with time there will be some clever solutions posted. Watching with interest.🤞🤔
Funny, anytime I've a side project like the Rover, I get bombarded with other things in life. Typical for me I suppose, In any case I've a few steps forward and I'm waiting on some parts ordered.
1. I've got my power steering hooked back up, though it needs a softener or I need to extend the hose a little IMO, it could rub through potentially. I'll watch it a while and then see but the factor hose did reach though, it's stretched quite a bit.
2. Brake booster line hooked up. There was a couple options here. The LS side is a slightly larger dia hose than the rover, I was able to (with great force) push some 3/8 ID hose onto the LS fitting and then that hose slips nicely onto the Rover tube which I cut back a couple feet. Works nicely there with a hose clamp I'll add today as they're on order. You could also use a cheap hose reducer with barbs on both sides to adapt the LS hose which was larger down to the Rover size hose but I was able to force it on instead.
3. Fuel line supply ALMOST done, I ordered the parts suggested on a parts list but it turns out in my case I needed none of them and rather might have gone with some others instead. Since I couldn't return them I will add a few other parts and make them work. The simple fuel line issue for me is adapting a 3/8 down to a 5/16 fuel line fitting and at the same extending it between 4-6". Knowing what I know now, I'd have just ordered the slip on fittings with barbs on both ends and used rubber hose with hose clamps on both ends. Being a safety matter, I could only recommend using 2 of the 4 suggested parts which would give both of the fuel connectors a -6AN fitting and a -6AN braided fuel line, which would all cost about 3x the price or more. This weighs heavily on me since I've a wife and kid in this vehicle but I feel pretty confident the fuel hose will work as I've used it for motorsports plenty of times in the past for years. I'll supply some photos when the adapters show up that I ordered.
4. A/C hoses, In the photos for the install, it shows them routed and while a bit kinked, they look functional. Mine do NOT, they're fully kinked. I do not know if they'll pump up and be functional or if I'll have to research on how to add a 90* hardline bend into the mix. If A/C line pressure is reasonable on a hose fitting, I'll extend the hoses and do just that which will mitigate the issue. There's probably a few solutions to this but after some time thinking, this is the cheapest and best IMO.
So, next up is transmission cooling lines (which I put off until now) and then coolant system installation which I had stored behind a bunch of junk in my garage but I'll finally be needing.
Brake Booster- Yellow shows the new hose (extra tranny cooling line) which I forced (partially) on to the fitting on the left side and slipped over the Rover hose marked in blue which I cut back a couple feet to where you see it now. I left about 4 inches of that tube which is shown inserted into the larger hose. A hose clamp will hold this securely in place to avoid leaks. I'll also force that hose onto the LS motor barb a bit further and hose clamp it. It's VERY hard to force on that barb. *Side note, you can see one of the fittings on the fuel line with a small blue clip, I've the same on the Rover side, both give a -6AN fitting so I could just use fuel line hose with -6AN fittings and be done but that line is $59 bucks for a custom length, so I'll pass on that. These little prices add up.

I totally get it whenever I get into a project it seems like half the fleet goes belly up needing a ton of work putting me at a hard stop on the work that I feel needs to happen
Glad to hear you are making progress. Not sure about the issues you are having with the fuel setup. It sounds like you may be using a list from earlier rather than the current parts list – should be 2.0B, which was sent via email. The parts on the last version are:
Because of the differences between LS engines, this setup may vary. Some will need different fuel rails if the one from the factory has the return. Flex fuel engines have different injectors, injector plugs can be different… The parts list was based on what was used in the first swap, with input from the beta group.
Yes, it was from rather early on. No matter, these adapters aren't terribly expensive.
Well, that opens the door backup, the catch would be that the line would be quite long on my Rover but it'd certainly work. The $59 was for a custom length setup or the cost of raw materials plus the connectors which frankly, I might screw up ha. I did two $6 dollar adapters and a piece of hose which, I already had as scrap so $12 bucks or so was cheap.
Those two connectors and that hose would most certainly work for other folks if they haven't ordered anything else.
I blocked off the fuel rail as Daedrix suggested with a piece of 5/16th rod. I figured there would be some changes and adjustments as per the fact that these engines are coming from various vehicles. Nature of the beast.
***edit** Amazon just dropped off the adapters and in 30 seconds, I've got fuel lines hooked up! One more thing done.

Just an update - as you may have noticed, this thread has now been moved to the new "Engine Swaps" subforum thanks to ArmyRover. I hope that this new subforum can become the go-to source of information on swaps for Disco 2s and other Land Rovers. I hope that everyone that has experience with this swap can start threads of their own experiences here. I will be posting some threads to discuss some of the things that have become buried in this thread to make the information more easy to access.
Ace,
It looks like your website is down (http://www.alternativeconversion.com/)
I'd like to see prices and get more detail about the LS swap.
I do appreciate all the work you have done (as well as all that have contributed to this thread)!
Hey joon. See the post below. @ACEngineer has put public sale on-hold indefinitely. He's still involved with helping folks out but not selling kits direct for now.
