Default Another Coolant Question

I keep hearing about coolant problems so I want to check my level. Where is it???? I can't find the coolant under the hood. I admit, I didn't try more than 3 minutes--but anyone can give me a quick location?

Also, what are signs that you have a coolant leak? My temp gage is always at the 50% level which I believe is normal.

What causes these coolant leaks?

And for a preemptive strike--yes I know about the Freelander Cooling kit and why it's needed. Can anyone testify that this is the answer to our prayers?

Ok... I admit, it was a dumb question. My last car had blue coolant. I looked harder today and saw this car has a different color coolant used--reddish of sorts.

This is the situation: I have had the car (2.5L) 9 months, 3,000 miles. Coolant still on the Max level. Not totally clear; slightly cloudy. But definitely not that bad.

Any thoughts? What should I be looking for? Are there any warnings signs as far as the coolant or even oil colors go?

It might be good to know: 83k miles on this vehicle.

As you face the front of the truck, the resevoir is on the left toward the back of the engine compartment. It is usually translucent white with a black cap.
