Default Dangerous! Brakes locked up suddenly

Greetings,

A very disconcerting event occurred last night to my daughters 2002 Freelander. While driving along on flat dry pavement at 25-30 mph the antilock brakes engaged without touching the brake pedal bringing the car to a sudden halt in the middle of the street. The brakes are locked and will not release. Any Ideas on why this happenred and how to unlock the brakes so i can have the vehicle towed to the dealer for service? I shudder to think what might have happpened if this occurred at highway speeds.

Thanks in advance.

George

Hi All,

Quick correction, the brake pedal was slightly depressed as we were approaching a stop sign. This triggered the ABS and/or the HDC system.

Thanks

I am not real familiar with your model, I am a Disco person, but if you have an owners manual, check and see if there is a fuse that powers the ABS, if so remove it and see if the brakes will release.
Not sure if it will work, but it is worth a try.
Good luck,
Mike
