Freelander with Duratec
Hi,
I just signed up today so I could ask my question about a Freelander, but I do have a LR 90 with a 2.5 TD that i am rebuilding, hopefully in time for MAR at Mountain Lake.
Anyway my Freelander question. I have been looking/reading about Freelanders and know the main issue is the engine. The KV6 had head gasket problems and is an interference design so goes pop frequently although I see them for sale with 200k on them so I guess as with everything if you take care of it, it lasts longer.
What I also found was it has a Jatco transmission in it, a JF506E. That transmission also was in the Jag X-type next to a Ford Duratec which also is in a lot of Contours. It was in a bunch of other cars - Mitsu Eclipse even a Mazda MPV. So..... Why can't a Duratec be put into a Freelander? or the engine out of one of those other cars?
Is a duratec to long, to tall, etc to fit? Both KV6 and the 2.5 Duratec are close in power and being v6's should feel about the same so why not put in a Ford? I did a search but have yet to find anyone talking about that conversion yet I did find a fellow putting a Toyota engine into a Kia Sedona which used the KV6 under license so that at least is possibe.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Clem
