hey everybody,

i've recently bought a 2001 freelander gs 1.8 petrol. im delighted with it, so far so good (touch wood).

im fairly new to all things car-related really, im trying to learn more and more as i go along.in relation to the cooling system, what exactly does the expansion tank do? i've attached an image i stumbled across onlineand the expansion tank is #16. do i need to fill it with fluid or is it just used as an overflow?
