I start my o2 freelander. Shift into reverse. Sometimes is makes a loud pop sound. But when I go into drive its a loud thump/pop sound in the rear end.

And when it downshifts to get on the freeway is pops too. Sounds like I rip the rear end up. Its horrible.

Please share your knowledge .... pretty please.

Its not altered in anyway supensionwise.

You have a torn rear differential front mount bushing.

 

I just had one replaced on my '02 SE; it was a very painless and inexpensive fix. Mine went out about 56,000 miles. Good luck, tacomatech nailedit.

 

It's a very common occurence, I typically see them starting to tear around 50k. The side mounts seem to hold up well though.

 

Thanks for the info , the dealer said i have to replace the rear end , i about s**t myself . gotta love "honest" LR dealerships.
I just rolled 124k on the freelander. i drive about 5k a month. Is there any other preventative thing you could recommend? i have had this car since 12k miles and i have just done factory servicing only.

Just stay up-to-date with the factory servicing and change the oil every 3k. Dont' take chances with these.

 

Hj, all. Does this problem also result in vibration? I'm feeling some, mostly on the left side, in front. I notice a thump from the rear when I hit the gas sometimes. Like there's play in the connection of the diff and driveshaft.
