Noisy Freelander
My '05 Freelander TD4 Sports has developed an annoying "growl" for want of a better description. I thought it might be tyre noise, it had 235/50 x 18 Accellera PH1 tyres, fitted by garage when I bought car in November 2012. Have just this week changed them for Hankook tyres with a supposed 70Db noise rating. Car is still noisy. Some road surfaces worse than others. Noise is bad at between 30 - 50mph after which it tails off. It does appear to be coming from beneath car, back end.
Engine is the BMW diesel with auto transmission. Apart from this noise, which only seems to have started late last year, I like the car and it pulls our heavy Coachman Caravan with no problems.
Anybody got any thoughts?

Mine developed a similar noise. Gradually got louder and one day began to make a metallic grinding sound when I was reversing. Luckily I have an extended warranty, the rear diff seals had gone and the rear diff was gradually 'eating itself'. Parts were reasonable (from the invoice I saw) but wouldn't have wanted to pay the 12 hours labour bill.
I live in Saudi Arabia so the reason for the failure was extremes of temperature. Apparently it is not a common fault. What kind of climate are you in?
