Default Preemtive Strike & Damage Control

2002 Freelander 76,000miles.Hours that I haveowned my rig - 18 hours.....
Husband flew to Seattle yesterday to pick it up for me (driving in the snow scares me)
He noticed that it was idling a little rough, the oil was dirty(however its not milky, so maybe no coolant in it...yet)
Died going up a hill....then started back up.

Really trying not to ramble here....
Following work/tests were done the first week of December (before I purchased the vehicle)
C Engine light is on- Tested for faults
P171 Fuel trim to lean
P174 Bank 2
P1319 Missfire, PO301,PO305

No vacuum leaks
monitored fuel trims
replaced air flow meter
Power door window switch replaced.

Here is my question...
What can we do, and where do we start when it comes to making sure
that my tranny & engine don't crap out on me.
My husband is a Hydro Machinist/Mechanic andalso tears down and rebuilds/mods his own
snowmobiles and bikes where do I have him start? Should the coolant reservoir and tubing
be replaced as a necessary precaution? What other hoses and such should be checked/replaced.....I'm so lost![&o]

Also, I'm going to take it in for an oil change. Itsin the single digits here right now
what oil is best for her and what is up with the orange coolant?

Default RE: Preemtive Strike & Damage Control

Hey

I use Mobil 1 fully synthetic engine oil.

My 2003 Freelander has been an okay vehicle but I have had a couple of expensive repairs: three windows needed work, fuel pump failed in the middle of no where and I am getting ready to have the timing belts and water pump changed. I bought the car in Anchorage, AK and drove it around Alaska for one year. Then in December of 2006 drove it from Alaska, through Canada to Indianapolis, IN-no problems. My car is stock except for an after-market engine heater and battery heater.
