The smell is coming from the coolant system. These cars have a poorly made coolant system which pushes fumes into the vehicle. I just had my coolant system repaired ($1400!!!). Do yourself a favor and get rid of the car as fast as you can. I only have 77,000 miles on my 2002 and EVERYTHING is breaking down. Run!!!

Needs a new heater core and while your at it replace the blower moter, they usually get soaked and damaged from the core leaking.
