Unhappy Tailgate will not open Freelander 1 - Help please!?

Dear all,
Can anyone help me please? My 2003 1.8 Freelander tailgate will not open. When I squeeze the handle, the glass drops but not quite enough to clear the roof seal and the door just wont open (feels like the lock is still completely engaged and has not opened at all). I also know that when squeezing the handle it doesnt sound correct (always used to hear a perky "click, click" (double click) coming from the handle and now I dont hear any noise form the handle at all. I can raise and lower the glass completely fine using the dashboard switch. Its strange because I assume that the swich in the handle is working as other wise the glass would not be moving as it does? Any help/clues would be much appreciated. This has been driving me crazy over the last few weeks trying to understand whats at fault,
Thanks in advance, kindest regards,

Here are some pages from the RAVE shop manual. There is a calibrartion you can perform. Needed if battery has been disconected, or is on the fritz.

I had exactly this issue, window dropped down an inch when I pressed door handle, but lock did not disengage. Eventually I lowered the window and then leant hard on the door whilst activating the door handle - and the door opened! I found that something had become trapped between the door and the frame and that must have been pushing the door against the lock so that the lock could not move. Worth trying before you start stripping the door down! Good luck!

Default Tailgate problem

Hello to everyone. I am new here.
My Free's tailgate doesn't open. The window doesn't drop, it doesn't open by the internal switch too. All started yesterday. But when I push the switch to open the window I can see that the command is taken, because the interior lights change color. The same thing happens when i try to open the tailgate.
So, I suppose it is not a wiring problem.
Can anyone say what to do? How to start looking for the problem?
Thanks in advance.
