I'm in a dire situation with the only key for my 03 Freelander. The blade is cracking, delaminating, and about 2 key turns away from snapping. I've ordered a replacement OEM key but I don't think I can wait the shipping time, as the issue has gotten worse faster than I originally expected. Has anybody found a workable substitute from a domestic auto brand? Something they can modify to work with the cylinder on a freelander? I can tape the transponder from my current key to steering column until the new key arrives, but I need something to get me to that point.
I'd also be interested to hear ideas as to how I could slow the breakage down. Thanks in advance.
