Default 06 RR - Should DVD play?

I just got an 06 RR and the manuals are missing.
I figured out how to get the DVD to play on the rear seats, but shouldn't it play in front if the car's not on?

I get a black square and it says to touch the picture to make it bigger but all i get is a black screen. Is my system broken or is there something I should change / check??

Any advice would be appreciated.

I know on most cars that the dvd will play on the front display when the transmission is in "park". However, I do not know if this is the case with a rover. Someone else will chime in and give a more definitive answer. You might try a different DVD, as some are formatted differently than others. I would suggest you purchase a new owners manual for future reference though.
