Default 1995 country classic Land Rover v8

I have purchased a 1995 Rover classic country v8 engine runs great on startup and when I leave it in park 5000 rpm no problem but when I put it in drive and only press the accelerator more than halfway down the engine cuts out, press accelerator 1/4 way down low rpms runs okay only troubleshooting this trying to figure out what problem is. This is my first land Rover and I purchased it this way anybody have any ideas

Maybe a vehicle speed sensor? I have a feeling this may be an inaccurate diagnosis, but I have the same rig with an occasionally bad sensor and sometimes at speed the engine will return to idle no matter where the accelerator pedal is. I'm not quite sure. Just a guess.

check for vacuum leaks also check to make sure the vacuum advance unit on the distributor is functioning properly.

Is there not a built in odb1 display under the passenger seat to read engine codes like the earlier models?

Some have them some don't kind of hit or miss it seems. None of mine had them when I got the RRC I bought one and kept it in my tool box

From 1990 on through 1995 all NAS Rovers, be they Defenders, Discos or Rangies, came equipped with the On Board Diagnostic Display. It was what made the 14CUX different from the 1989 14CU engine management system. Bill, if your truck(s) didn't come with one, the previous owner either kept it or broke it and tossed it.

To the original poster, is the Check Engine Light on? If so, remove the outside plastic seat frame cover from the passenger seat.

Land Rover OBD Trouble Codes ?

With the key in the accessory II position the red LED will display the fault code(s). At least you'll have a starting point. Right now, without know if there are any codes you're pretty much operating on hunches.
