1996 4.0SE Starting Problem
I am unable to start my 1996 4.O SE. I eliminated any spark problem and suspect fuel delivery as I can't hear the fuel pump in the tank. If I spray fuel in the air intake manifold the engine starts. Checked the fuel relay - its ok. Is the fuel pump supposed to make any kind of noise while ignition is 'on'? for how long? I have since this morning eliminated the fuse, relay and (IFS) shut-off switch, located passanger side footwell. What pressure reading should I get on a pressure tester from the fuel pump? Thanks
Have you verified voltage at the pump? Do that first. The pump is designed to pump for a second or too, just long enough to get proper pressure to the engine and fire the cold start system then it shuts down till the engine starts.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the electric, it is OK. Earlier tonight I was able to start the car for few minutes, just enough time to read the fuel pressure at the rail of 36 PSI. But then I could not start it any more! Any ideas what the pressure shuld be at ?
