Default 1996 RR 4.6 Backfiring at startup

My Rover is acting funky in the morning. After startup it
runs real sluggish and will backfire once or twice, but after
a couple of miles it will run fine.

Any suggestions?

Oh......where exactly is the inline fuel filter located? Tried
finding it, but didn't have much luck.

Thanks
Dave

Hey Ray ....too bad about your back fire problems. I have no clue about that but I do know where the fuel filter resides if it is set up the same way my 98 HSE is. It's north of the fuel tank off to the right side ...I believe just behind the air tank. Check out that location and see if you can find it. I had mine replced at 75K ...I think it was about $60 (ouch!).

air temp sensor, and the timing. I don't know it your's has varible speed timing. May be time for a new timing belt. You can always check the other things, plugs, wires, air cleaner. hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff
