Default RE: 1998 Range Rover engine question

I believe the transmission on both vehicles is the German ZF transmission and technically should hook up the same but, to be honest I seriously doubt that the engine in an 04 disco will operate properly on the same electrical system. The 2 engines are completely different, the 98 RR engine is a design similar to a buick GM engine and the one on the 2004 Disco is a BMW Bosch engine. You might try getting an engine out of a discovery pre 1999 I series I believe they are basically the same engine that you have now in your 98. I do know of people putting different engines in RRs but the electrical system will drive you crazy when its operating on an engine that it was not designed for. It can be done, do I recommend it... No. If you want factual information on whether or not the transmission will work... you might want to look at the service and parts manual on both vehicles, that will tell you for sure but, in theroy the engine should hook up fine to the transmission but, it won't mount right in the RR and and bunch of other unforseen difficulties which in my opinion is not worth the head ache.
