Default 1998 Range Rover Transfer Case?

My 1998 range rover 4.0's transfer case chain has started to make a grinding noise when first taking off? The dealer told me that I need a new transfer case? But, I was wondering why I couldn't try to replace the chain before purchasing a New transfer case?

SomeBody Please advise?

Default RE: 1998 Range Rover Transfer Case?

Two thoughts, I thought the t/case was a complete geared unit and are you sure it is the t/case and not the front drive shaft?
Can you better describe the noise, does it also happen in low range?
Mike
