Default 2000 Range Rover Key

I purchased a 2000 Ranger Rover 4.6 but it only came with one key. I really only need one key but would like a cheap extra just incase this one gets locked in. Does anyone know if a locksmith can cut just a extra key? I don't really care if it will start rover just like to have one that I could have incase keys got locked in to unlock door. Sure this has been covered here before but search will not let me use three letter work to search. Thanks

you can get blanks on ebay and a good locksmith can cut them. and they will start the car unless you used the remote to arm it.

Do not listen to the above advice. He is incorrect. Each key is "coded" to each car. Only a dealer can re-program the alarm/lock system for a new key - and it ain't cheap! Looking at $900 to $1200 for a new key. Or more for a new steering column ignition switch assembly. Sorry. True. Kevin in Minneapolis.

Wrong you can have a key copied at any good locksmith WHAT you can not do is have a remote programed, keys are not an issue as a matter of fact you can get a blank
with an empty remote for about $10 on ebay.

I had to replace a lost key and the dealer took my VIN and cut a key offsite and days later I was given my replacement.
Cost: bet. $50-$60 here in NJ. The expensive key is the Master key with the remote attached. That's in the hundreds!
