Default Key/key fob remote

Maybe a dumb question...I have a 2004 Disco and the key with the remote for the locks built into it. This is one big and bulky thing that is a bear to get into the ignition due to the very tight space. Several times I have inadvertently hit the button(s) on this thing when turning on/off the ignition. Would it be possible to remove the key part and just use the remote portion and get a 'normal' duplicate of the key, so I don't have to fight with this behemoth of a thing going in and out of the ignition?

Are you talking about the unlock/lock part that is attached to the top of the key?
If that's your question, yes it is possable to remove. But if i was you, dont remove it! Just buy a clean factory key from ebay, and get it copied from the dealer or whatever. Those unlock/lock pads are a bit pricy (like everything i've been searching for LR's)
