Default 2002 or 2003 Range Rover, which would you buy?

Would you rather go with a 2002 P38 with 52K for $17,000 or a 2003 L322 Range Rover for $24k with 50K on the clock? I personally like the P38 interior more. However, the exterior I think I prefer the new model more. Which is less expensive to maintain and are parts in general cheaper for the older model?

Thanks in advance.

Personaly I would go for a late P38 rather that a early L322, just because anything has teething problems at the start.

I've got an opinion,at 50k miles both cars are going to nickle and dime you, unless you have a warranty,if don't get a warranty you could be setting yourself up for a long haul, parts are always expensive, labor is expensive,so I would buy the one you like better and buy a certified car from a dealer

What kind of things would you expect to go between 50 and 100K? That is how I plan on keeping it. Now here is the dilema I have with certified cars, they almost always seem to cost $8-10 thousand more than an identical vehicle from a car lot or private party. Chances are that you will not put $8 grand worth of work into the car in 3/4 years.

I understand your dilema...not to be rude but have you owned a range rover before?...chances are you'll spend more than 8k on parts and service on a range in 3-4 years of use...without some type of warranty...the biggest thing would be engine replacement due to say a overheat condition, trans, air suspension, differentials on the 03 are problematic, lots of things to consider...50k miles is where these cars start to show thier age, like I said they will nickel and dime you...but really if you like the car buy it...

Can you please into detail about this engine overheat scenerio? Are both the late P38s and early L322s known to overheat?

No, I've never owned a Land Rover but I own a 97 Jaguar and in the 4 years I've owned it I've put about $5500 in to it.

not to freak you out but if a p38 overheats it could drop a cylinder sleeve, then it would need an engine, rovers in general leak coolant and oil...l332 are known to leak at the radiators and coolant hoses, this motor is a little more robust,I've only replaced a few of these, the motors and appearance of the car may look great...but you don't know how it was treated for the first 50k miles,a motor job for a p38 is around 12k and a l332 is about 15k

Ok, thanks for the info. It looks like I'll be looking at late model Ford Expeditions instead. The whole motor-overheat things really scares me. LOL
