Default 2003 RR oil leak

I just purchased an 03 RR and found an oil leak that I didn't see at the dealer. Of course, the dealer stated nothing was wrong with the vehicle, but sold as is. My question is, the leak appears to be coming from the engine/transmission area. It's definitely motor oil, not transmission fluid. My first thought is rear main seal. Does anyone know how common a problem this was for this year, or of any common leaks that I should check for?

not very common at all... only a few things leak on these... oil filter housing, its pretty obvious... cam cover gaskets, if its comming down the back of the engine, its probably this, if it is, also replace your engine breather tubes and the cyclone seporator.. the cam cover gaskets leak because of excess pressure, the breather hoses collapse, and then the seperator clogs and you have too much oil vapor pressure to burn, so it leaks out. if youre absolutly sure its engine oil, its probably the cam covers. make sure its not diff fluid first though

Default Oil leak Found

Thanks again Roverguy7. You were correct, the leak is from the cam cover gaskets, both cylinder banks. I am going to order all the parts ASAP. You mentioned the breather hoses and cyclone separator, would you also recommend changing the oil at the same time due to the previously mentioned clogging issue? The last oil change was 6 months/3,000 miles ago.

absolutly. replace your hoses, cyclone sep. and the oil. honestly, i recomend using a can of BG MOA, and changing your oil 1000 miles afterwards. itll clean everything up and youll be good as new, as long as your end plate is good... it has to be real bad for the end plate to get clogged, just so you know
