2005 RR Pinging
My '05 RR with 3500 miles on it pings. I've used 92 octane fuel from different vendors to no avail. It pings when a gear bogs down a bit prior to downshifting. Upon harder throttle, the sound goes away. Some passengers dispute whether it is a ping or just a generalized metalic rattle. I say ping. Is this a situation I should seek an immediate fix for? Aside from being annoying, are there any more serious demons lurking? I'll bring it to the dealer's attention for sure at the 7,500 mile oil change, but want your opinion if it is something to upgrade to "urgent." Thx.
i see a dealer in your future... sounds are hard to diagnose on computers... but i know ranges have a nice rattle problem so take it to a dealer ps: check your tailgate connections (they have a tendency to come loose and they rattle)
Finally had it looked at. The shop foreman rode with me to hear the noise and confirmed it as pinging. They loaded the latest software and checked for any open service campaigns. Before they checked, they thought it would be a faulty temperature sensor located on or near the radiator, allowing the motor to run warm. Didn't turn out to be the case. Anyway, it idles faster now, seems to shift and maintain a gear a little more like sport mode. But who knows. I did hear a little ping the other day again, but decided to turn up the radio. Land Rover of Bellevue was very good with their service. I trust they did what they could.
