2008 HSE with clunky transmission
Hello everyone,
I purchased a 2008 HSE with 47k miles 1 month ago. Although I did not buy a warranty, I believe I am covered under NY state's Lemon Law for 2months or 3000miles. With that said, I feel the transmission isn't as smooth as it should be.
1. It feels clunky at low speeds (seems like it's hesitant on what gear to be in)
2. When slowing down, I feel the car catching (seems like I feel it downshifting through the gears)
3. And occasionally when slowing down then reaccelerating, I feel it slam into a gear. (not severe though)
I have an appt with the dealer. I felt they can diagnose if there is a problem.
I see on the forum here maybe it needs a transmission oil change or even a software update. Are either of these something that can help me? I want to figure it out before my two months are up. Thank you.

certainly have them check for software updates. The transmission oil shouldn't need changed until 75k or until the electrical connector sleeve starts leaking fluid, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to do a drain and fill if you want. Since the transmission is completely electronically shifted, fluid changes shouldn't matter too much in shift quality, unless it's been so neglected that damage is done, or perhaps if a completely incompatible fluid was used. The computer monitors the time it takes to shift gears and adjusts clutch pressure accordingly. After doing a fluid and filter change it's probably not a bad idea to reset the adaptions in the computer. This should also be done after updating the software.
thanks for all of the information!! So it sounds like a maintenance issue more than a shot transmission
I have an appt for Tuesday so we'll see!
BTW .. I hear that RR's are supposed to downshift when slowing down to help braking???
Also, how much do you think I should be spending to do a fluid change and a software update? I've never been to a dealer so I want to know what to expect. Thanks.

Big bucks at a dealer, I'd think. The fluid probably lists for $20 to $30 a quart. The filter/pan is probably over $100. I think someone looked it up for me at like 3 hours labor, however much your dealer charges for labor per hour.
