Default 4.6 P38 Cooling system Nightmare

Hi all, appoligies if you've seen this before but just after as much help as I can get hence posting on quite a few forums.

I have a cooling system nightmare, I am not ruling out the fault of a slipped liner (although the engines only done 34k) but I would like to see if any one elce thinks theres another reason, I have the following problems;

- Water loss, some times I worse than others.
- High pressure in the cooling hoses.
- The bottom of the rad is stone cold, feeling the rad when it's upto temp it gets progresively colder as I work my way down and if I flush it through with a hose it seem to have plenty of flow and I have changed the thermostat.
- And possably totaly unrelated but the interior heaters give out no heat untill I am moving.
- I have not as yet pressure tested the cylinders.
- I have no power loss
- Oil is fine no level change.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Going to have the Rad off at the weekend because a couple of people have suggested that the cause may well lye there.

check for co2 in the coolant system, next you should pull a vacum on the coolant system and refill to proper mix/ level, then press test for leaks

I agree with the previous post. The cooling lines on those models are higher than the fill port on the resivoir causing a large air pocket if not carfull. Otherwise, I would lean towards the cylander head gaskets.

to test for CO² is there any reason you couldn't use a CO² test for an aquarium ? 'cause my mates well into his fish and he's got a kit at home.

there is one designed for automobile engines,it has a few different chambers that you fill with a blueish color chemical,if your engine is leaking emmisions into the coolant system the fluid changes to yellow

Vaccum tested the system to -24psi with an air lift kit eariler and the pressure held for 20 mins with absolutly no drop in the vaccum, refilled the cooling system through the airllift kit and ran it on my drive for about 30 mins, with no loss of coolant, took the truck out for a 10 mile drive and lost ½ the fluid from the header tank.

This is getting annoying. now.

Since I've left it to cool down the water has come back up to the cold fill level, is it normal for the fill level to go down when the system is at running temp ?

keep an eye on it,sometimes it does this,I would also pressure test the system for leaks, double check everything hoses waterpump, headgaskets heatercore O rings...if they are leaking the floor on the pass side will be wet

I change the Heater matrix o-rings about 3 weeks ago so they should be alright, also recently changed the matrix inlethose in the engine bay and thethrottle housing heater gasket, as I had leaks from all these.
