Default 4.6 P38 Missing

Hi,

My 4.6, 2000 plate, P38 is missing on leads 3,5 and 6. I took it to a main dealer who sugested changing the ignition coil pack (Bosch 0 221 503 407). Before I go ahead with this recommendation, does anybody have any advice as I think that the coil pack has 2 sides which the left provides 1,3,5 & 7 and the other the evens. My logic tells me that if it was a fault with the ignition coil pack then why would both side go at the same time?
I have not investigated further than get a diagnostic test!

Please help

Regards

Mark

Murphy's Law is a multi-volume set, so you could have more than one problem, like a bad wire as well. If you are able to look under the hood in total darkness, you may see tiny arcs on the cables or the coil pack if you can see much of it. IMHO the ECU has to do a lot of calculations to figure out which plug was just fired before the engine speed quivered, etc., so on multiple ones it may not always be 100% on the money. So changing one coil pack may indeed correct "phantom" problems on other cylinders.

How many miles on the engine, when was it last changed along with a new set of 8 mm silicone plug wires, what octane gas are you burning?

Default Cheers fellas

Cheers guys, really appreciate it!

It has 124000 miles on the clock. I changed the Valves, gaskets and plugs leads less than 6000 miles ago when I put the multi point GAS system. I have run the car on both petrol (OCTANE 97 RON) and GAS with the same result.
I agree, But I could end up chasing my tail. I will get more advice from you guys before I decide where to start.

I have changed the leads, plugs and Ignition coil but to no avail. I have checked the airflow sensor; which is free and clean. As this is happening on both gas and petrol I am happy it is not a fuel issue however, my next thought is the injectors as there is no sensor faults reported on the computer. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

What do you mean when you say GAS and petrol? Are you meaning Natural Gas and Octane 87, 91, etc?

Liquid Petroleum Gas. Unleaded Petrol 97 RON. I start the car on petrol and when it is warm enough I switch it over to LPG. The problem is the same when the engine is cold or hot on either fuel.
