Well 89 is a pretty old rover, and is probably in need of a rebuild. I personally think the classic RRs are great and are more reliable mechanically than some of the others, but they have electrical problems that can be very frustrating (good old Lucas). A good place to find new heads might be roverparts.com, and used would be ebay. You might try craigslist for a used motor, I have seen some go for pretty cheap. However, you do get what you pay for in most instances. So make sure the sleeves in the motor you intend to buy are in good shape. Sometimes car wreckers will pull fast ones on ya.

To answer your question, they are good vehicles, but they are not cheap to maintain. If you do a lot of the repairs yourself, you will find they can be very reasonable cost wise to own. But if you like to take it to the dealer, be prepared to pay a large bill.

Where are you located? There is a 3.9 locally here that is going for $750 with all accessories and only has 118K. Looks like a nice motor, it is located in Nort Idaho.
