Default 98 P38A shift to low, kind of

Hello all.
I have been a D2 owner for some time, and have just recently acquired a 98 P38A. Working on a few issue, but one that I may need some help with is..
If I shift into low,it does go into P and R. But if I try to go into front drive, 4 or lower the shifter wont go. I haven't taking the H apart yet to see if a clamp fell or something fell in.
Thanks

I would pull the shift housing up and see if there something there, you had the right first step. I cannot think why it would not shift if there is nothing blocking it so let us know what you find out.

Default H drive

Thanks for the reply, I tried again yesterday to change gears, same thing.
I didn't have time to take it apart, but I will tackle that soon.
Also, noticed a chirping from front right, seems to go away, with braking.
So, many little things on these Rovers.

LRScott, sometimes I hear it and sometime not. I though i might be brake cailb. If I put my foot on the brake it seems to stop. Also, when I first heared it, it sounded like my wheel nut caps were clicking.

stlnoble, I had the P38 for about 3months. So as for as I know, it's been that way for a while. I just have be going though it a little at a time. Fixing it one piece at a time. Never off road (really) as for as I know.
